our story

Meet Home & Habit

Two years ago, we moved into an 80-year-old home full of character but in need of some love. As an artist who loves woodworking, this house was the perfect canvas to combine my passions.

I quickly realized that creating a beautiful, functional space wasn’t as simple as it looked online. I didn’t know where to start, and all the Pinterest-perfect homes felt overwhelming. I didn’t know how to make our house look beautiful while still feeling like us. That’s when I dove into interior decorating and DIY, learning how to balance style, function, and family life.

Through years of trial, error, and hands-on projects, I discovered practical ways to create a home that’s both beautiful and functional. Now, I’m passionate about sharing everything I’ve learned with busy people who want their homes to feel warm, inviting, and uniquely theirs.

Here, you’ll find beginner-friendly DIYs, thoughtful styling tips, budget decor, easy organization strategies, and simple routines that make decorating and maintaining your home doable and enjoyable.

My home philosophy

Use What You Have & Get Creative

Your home is already full of hidden gems. Sometimes all it takes is a little DIY, a coat of paint, or simply moving things around to make it feel brand new. One of my favorite tricks is “shopping” my own house — swapping decor from room to room, shifting plants to new spots, or doing a quick declutter. Paired with a tidy space, these small shifts can make your home feel fresh and inspiring without spending a dime or storing piles of extra decor.

Secondhand First + Buy with Intention

Thrift stores, flea markets, and Facebook Marketplace are treasure troves. Secondhand not only saves money and supports sustainability — it also adds soul and character you just can’t find in big-box stores. When you do buy new, make it intentional. Skip fleeting trends and choose pieces that feel true to you. Splurge on timeless classics you’ll love for years, and use smaller items like pillows, throws, and vases to experiment seasonally.

Balance Beauty + Real Life

A home should be both beautiful and livable. You can absolutely have style with kids, pets, and the everyday mess — it just comes down to practical choices. Simple systems for cleaning and organization help lift the mental load, so you can enjoy a tidy home without spending all your time maintaining it. Forget the “perfect Pinterest home” pressure — real beauty comes from spaces that tell your story, not someone else’s rules.

I’m obsessed with how this turned out! I created a hidden storage box behind upcycled thrifted art that I painted myself. It’s the perfect mix of function + style, and now our bathroom is both beautiful and organized. I can’t wait to make more hidden storage spots around the house! The frame of our newish couch broke, but thanks to The frame of our newish couch broke, but thanks to a service warranty, we got it checked out. Turns out, a knot in the wood caused a main support bar to crack in three directions—bad enough that the repair guy wanted to haul the whole couch to the shop for a few days. That sounded awful, so I asked if he could get it started and show me how to finish the job.

He was awesome, walked me through the first part, and left me with wood glue and torque screws. A few hours later, the couch was back in business.

A few years ago, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to tackle something like this, but learning to DIY has changed that. It may seem like a small thing to some, but I love the confidence that building and repairing things in my own home has brought me. DIY is about learning, problem-solving, getting creative, and most importantly—trying.

What did Michael Jordan say? “You miss 100% of the couches you don’t fix?” Oh wait, that might have been Michael Scott. Either way, I’m glad I went for it.

Our Christmas was majorly interrupted by the flu t Our Christmas was majorly interrupted by the flu this year. We had to cancel all of our plans, including our annual Christmas Eve party, which was a major letdown. I was down for the count for a few weeks, so the holiday decor stuck around a little longer than usual… like, into the second week of January.

Then CapCut decided to dip for a minute, and this reel got stuck in limbo. But it’s back, I am mostly recovered, and our regular decor is back in place.

As much as I love Christmas decor, it feels good to have a clean, minimal living room again. All of my plants are back in place, we hung up some new artwork, and added wireless sconces above our mantle that pull everything together and brighten up the room.

New year, new cleaning routine✨ If you’re declutte New year, new cleaning routine✨ If you’re decluttering and refreshing your space, don’t forget to make it smell just as fresh with a DIY linen or room spray made with essential oils. 🌿 Not only is it non-toxic and better for the planet than store-bought aerosol sprays, but it’s also budget-friendly. Plus, you can customize the scent to your liking—whether you’re all about calming lavender or a citrus burst to start your day. 🌱
